Laura Hill

She kindly took the time to share a bit about her experiences with Teachers Pay Teachers and teaching.

1. How long have you been TPT'ing?

I have been on TpT since February 4th, 2014. It has officially been 1 year since I started TpT and I could not be more happy with all the great products I have created and all the wonderful people I have met on the forums.

2. What is your most helpful advice for new TPT'ers?

My most helpful advice for new TpTers is to stay true to yourself. Whatever you are passionate about, create it. Anything that you can say was from your heart and your drive for teaching is a worthwhile project. Anyone can make a simple packet, but it is the passion, time and determination that makes a product worth while.

Take time to reflect on products and modify them when needed.I think it is extremely important to make a relationship with your followers and people who visit your store. Always reply to people who buy your products and are kind enough to leave feedback for them. Kindness and just the thought that you appreciate people goes a long way as a seller on TpT.

Just having a store and saying "Oh I just made $10.00" yet not celebrating or providing thanks for those who purchased your products is not the point. You should be proud of EVERY accomplishment you make, whether that be completing the newest packet you have been working on for weeks or gaining a new follower.

If you stay true to yourself and share your creations with others through some free and some paid products, you will be successful on TpT. Every little packet you sell or put out for free download is just one more classroom you have touched with your passion for teaching and creating.

3. What is your most helpful advice for beginning teachers?

Coming from personal experience, one of the most important tips I could give to any first year teacher is have a routine for everything and go over it again and again until it is solid. Don’t let anything slide until at least a few months into teaching and the rest of the year will be smooth sailing. You can always relax and calm back down, but if you start off letting things go, you will be re-teaching routines constantly.

Another important aspect for teaching is to be unique! Do what works for you, and create rules, routines and lessons that come natural to you!
It takes a lot of time, but developing your own activities and lessons to go along with a curriculum just makes teaching that much more enjoyable. If you do what works best for you and are passionate about those things, your students will not only be more engaged but will also enjoy learning when they know their teacher is just as excited if not More excited about it than they are.

The students won’t necessarily remember the exact decorations in your classroom or the specific lessons you taught. They’ll remember how you made them feel, and how the classroom made them feel! Make them feel motivated, safe and loved and that your classroom is their home away from home. Take time to appreciate every little moment your students acknowledge their feelings towards you or their classroom. Set the expectations high so that when students reach their goals, they will just keep wanting more!

Additional Tips :)

Throughout the year and especially at the end of your first year, when looking back and reflecting, you will recall that there were a ton of things you did wrong and a plethora of mistakes you have made... but please realize, it is okay! Make time for yourself whether it is for 10 minutes or a whole day. Don't always bring your work home, take time to be passionate about what you do, but don't always let that passion take you. Teaching is not in any way easy, nor is it something you can master over night..or even in 30-40 years. Mistakes will be made, crying will commence, and things won't always go according to plan. However, never give up! Things may seem hard, but believe in yourself, believe in your love for teaching and the sky is truly the limit.

Snowed In!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Because anything is better than ice. This is my current situation. Schools here are closed for the week and we had the "option" of going into work today. As much as I need to go in, I don't think my little car will make it, especially since honey's car got stuck on the ice yesterday. I also wouldn't want to take Papaya out on these slippery road, no matter where I was going. It started snowing which made it even worse because there is a layer of snow on top of the layer of ice from yesterday. Hopefully, I can get to work tomorrow :)

What do you do on a snow day? Let me know!

New Bags and Cards!

So excited to get home today and find my order from Vistaprint. Vistaprint was honestly amazing in all of the options that I had and the additional items that I could order. I bought 500 cards and a brand new bag with my logo.Since I updated my blog, I wanted to get new cards to match the look. Below is my card, good and serviceable.

My old card
My old card felt very drab.  Although it went with my old theme, I didn't feel like it spoke to the essence of what I was trying to accomplish. Below is the back.

My original store name was Knowledge Mobile (like the car). I blogged about how I cam up with the name before. Suffice it to say, I have since reimagined the name for Mobile (like a phone or being mobile) to better represent the present and the presence of technology.

And now for the new card....

Drum Roll Please.....

I'm in love with these cards! I loved the bright pink color and the huge hello at the top! I can't wait to start giving these out.

I am also super excited about my bag. My Knowledge Mobile stuff is everywhere. Honestly everywhere. On the floor, the table, and divided between my three different bags. I'm pretty sure there is even a to do list somewhere in Papaya's diaper bag. I'm just excited to have a place to keep everything together.

If you don't have cards yet, or this FABULOUS bag, head on over to vistaprint!
Happy early Valentine's Day!

Wordless Wednesday! Pinterest Headers - February 11, 2015

Happy Wednesday!
It is time for another Wordless Wednesday with Ms. Decarbo!

I know I broke the rule...but...it's so pretty!

Why cute outfits you ask? Because I'm currently obsessed with Ladybug's Teacher Files! She posts the most creative and COLORFUL ideas for decorating your blog, pinterest page, and your life in general. I followed her tutorial to change your pinterest board covers and stayed up WAY to late changing the covers.

I made 11 covers altogether and spent about an hour beginning to sort out my boards. As I am planning to return to the classroom, it's important to sort out all of my teacher ideas in order to prep them over the summer.

Overall, I am super happy with the results! What do you think?
Is there a blogspot idea/post has kept you up late into the night?

TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY featuring Janet from Fishy Robb

Hi all! Happy Tuesday! I hope your week has gotten off to a great start. It's Tuesday and time for our first installment of...

This week, our Teacher Feature is

She kindly took the time to share a bit about her experiences with Teachers Pay Teachers and teaching.

1. How long have you been TPT'ing?

3 years

2. What is your most helpful advice for new TPT'ers?

Spend time making attractive covers. The content of your product could be incredible, but no one will look at it if it doesn't catch their eye. It's just like products in the grocery store. The best looking boxes and bags sell the most. Don't spend days or weeks making a fantastic resource without giving it a great cover too.

3. What is your most helpful advice for beginning teachers?

Ask for help! No veteran teacher is going to watch you struggle or fail. Speak up if you don't know what to do or if something isn't working well.

Her products are simply amazing! She has over 343 products and counting and definitely has what you need. I just love her covers. My favorite is tick tock task cards, because of course, it is super colorful.

Make sure to drop by her blog for her wonderful teacher tips and products! I'm so glad that she shared her tips.

Floating Facebook Button

I saw it every where. I wanted it bad. But did I want to pay for it....not so much.

Every blog I have been visiting lately has the floating Facebook log widget advertising their Facebook page.

Being a newly minted page, I wanted the cool widget for myself. The only thing is is that I don't code, don't know anyone who codes, and didn't want to wait to get on a wait list for a professional. (I'm impatient that way).

Thanks to the magic of Google, I was able to find a wonderful link to the html code from the Blog Widgets,

It took three tries to get everything set up. The main hang up in the code is knowing where to insert my code for my Facebook. The post includes the exact code to search for, so make sure you are looking closely! I couldn't find it at first.

As for other issues, I then had to add a the html code for the JQuery.  (As if I know what that is! I just know I copy and paste really good lol). I did find I had to do a bit of coding </script> to make the JQuery work.

Anyhoo, I am loving my little widget and feeling extra proud of myself for being able to design this blog by myself, with loads of help from other tuts and blog posts. **Pat self on back**

Fantabulous February!

Ahhh! Love is in the air! In preparation for February, share all of your February/Valentine's themed products below.

Currently February!

It's February! January went by so quickly! It literally just blew by me smh. So at the end of this whirlwind, I am linking up with Farley to get February on the right start!

 1. I am so loving Spotify's Pop Ballads list. I listen to it  at work CONSTANTLY! I had to make a deal with my seat mate that I will let her get a day to play the music lol. It has such great throw back, classic, and current hits. I just zone out and feel more super productive.

It also can't hurt that Beyonce is on the cover. I'm just sayin.

2. My family came to visit my little Papaya. My mother brought her a new playard after hearing that she fell off the couch. To be fair, she landed on a bed of pillows, but my mother was not trying to here that. She, along with my sister, brother, and aunt, descended on our house for the weekend. It's always great to be around family.

 Papaya in her play yard.

Grandmmommy with Papaya. Papaya has been covering everyone with drool lately, due to her teething.

Auntie and sister dear with sweet papaya.

3. I have NOT seen any of my friends at all! Between work, the baby, TPT stuff, Blog Stuff, and of course Honeybear, there is not enough time in the day. I actually took the past two weeks off just to get me house in order and spend time with family. Now I need to see my friends. I really don't want to fall into the family trap, where you are so focused on family, you forget about your friends. I have a brithday party coming up that I'm excited about as well as just general girl time with the buds.

4. I really want it to snow on Thursday. Yes, yes, yes...students need to be in school, but I love working from home with my little papaya. We had some today so fingers crossed.

5. I need bobby pins. Badly. I always start with 100 and they magically disappear over the course of the month. Of course, honey bear always finds them and tells me that they are in the couch, my purse, the floor, the bathroom drawers, and basically everywhere else but in my hair. I went to pick some up, but they were $2.74 for like 42. That was just too rich for my blood. I will take my frugal self back to the dollar store and purchase the next 100 and steel myself for honeybear's complaints.
(I have to have a few flaws right??....right....)

As for my pageant title, if I were a pageant queen, I would definitely take the title for food prep. Honey and I are trying the PiYo lifestyle (not a diet... not a diet...trying to trick my brain).
After the disappointing loss of the Seahawks, I had to leave and purchase all of our food prep items.

I bought two sets of these containers from Walmart to help with food prep.
I love the PiYo LIFESTYLE counts servings rather than calories. I have honey on the same diet, so hopefully we can be accountability partners.

Above are the results of our hard work! We measured out everything using our new digital scale so hopefully everything will be great. Papaya turned six months old today, so no more I just had a baby excuses lol.

Happy February!
