Teacher Feature Tuesday with Jasmine McClain from Buzzing with Mrs. McClain

Happy Tuesday! For all my Nashville friends, should be happier now that there are 3 full days left of school! Sad that another year has come to an end, but happy it's Tuesday and time to feature an amazing educator. :)

This week's Teacher Feature Tuesday is
Jasmine McClain from

She is the genius behind the monthly You Oughta Know link up. Each month she has a great group of educators who share their best tips and ideas about teaching. I have participated twice now and I really enjoy reading and learning from others in the classroom.

How long have you been TPT'ing?

Since 2011

What is your most helpful advice for new TPT'ers?

My advice for new TPTers is to set goals that you want to reach, but don't compare your goals to what others' are doing. I've been doing TpT for a while and have never reached the BIG milestone but I have reached plenty of milestones that I set for myself.

What is your most helpful advice for new teachers?

My advice for beginning teachers is to be confident in your abilities and that it is okay to make mistakes.

I love how her feedback is centered in running your own race. With all of the data and analytics, it can be easy to become discouraged when there are so many others out there who are seemingly more successful. At the end of the day, you have to set your own goals and be confident in yourself. Truer words never spoken :) By the way...

You Oughta Buy...

As for more evidence of her sage wisdom, check out her End of the Year Frenzy Unit! Even if you have four days left, or until the end of June (I feel your struggle), these activities my be the thing you need to finish the year strong.

I really loved her mini awards! They would be great to give at the end of each week for student recognition.

I am so grateful for Mrs.McClain and her collaborative spirit! I am so glad she could share with us and I hope you can use it!

Teacher Feature Tuesday featuring Jessica Plemons from Mrs. Plemons' Kindergarten

Happy Tuesday! Time for another Teacher Feature!

This week I am featuring Jessica Plemons from Mrs. Plemons' Kindergarten!

She is an amazing teacher/blogger/author who creates practical and useful materials for teachers and their students.
Mrs. Plemons' Kindergarten

1. How long have you been TPT'ing?

Since August of 2013

2. What is your most helpful advice for new TPT'ers?

Stop by the TPT forum and read, read, read. There are so many great threads full of advice for new sellers. I wish I had discovered that treasure trove of information. I could have avoided so many newbie mistakes with securing files, copyrighting materials, creating cover pages/previews and more! Starting can be overwhelming, but taking just a few minutes each day to read the advice of others will go a LONG way and save you time in the end.

3. What is your most helpful tip for new teachers?

Find teachers that have a collaborative heart. I've been blessed to work with some amazing teachers that just share anything and everything they can...ideas, crafts, paper, books, extra copies, tears, laughs, coffee, chocolate, whatever I need! If you can't find them in your building reach out to bloggers! There are so many teachers out there pouring their hearts into blog posts with ideas that you can use. Find a few favorite bloggers that share the kinds of ideas you love. Collaborative blogs in particular are always a great treasure trove of information because you get tons of bloggers all in one place!

Any additional tips?

When you compare yourself to others you may never be satisfied, but if you look at how much you've grown, you can celebrate your accomplishments. Whether it is in TPT or teaching it's easy to see others' success and feel they are beyond your reach, but when you focus on growth you can be proud of the work you do. Work hard. Be proud.

Teacher Feature Tuesday featuring Kovescence of the Mind

Happy Tuesday and Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
So happy to feature a great teacher Sarah from the Kovescence of the Mind
I have seen her blogging and activity for the past couple of weeks, and can attest to her amazingness. I am excited to participate in her summer book club on reciprocal teaching.

How long have you been TPT'ing?

November 2009

What is your most helpful advice for new TPT'ers?

Have great freebies out there. This ways people can get to know your work. This will build a client base for you.

What is your most helpful advice for new teachers?

Create one awesome lesson per class or subject every week. The rest of the week survive. It is okay to not have every lesson for every class or every subject be the best ever. Then next year add another-two rocking lessons a week. By the time you get to year 5 you will have some awesome lessons and activities. It takes time, so let yourself have that time

Additional tips?

Use the technology that we have available to use in order to make your life easier in the long run. I am a huge fan of using as little paper as possible. I want the students to do the work. If I am exhausted at the end of the day, the students didn't do enough of the work.

Good News Below!

1. Good News
She has an amazing resource for grouping students with the Rainbow Desks Labels for grouping , Having the students get into groups is one of the hardest things to do. You can have them do even and odd numbers, vowels and consonants, or the numbers. It comes in multiple colors for the complete set.
2. Even Better News
Her store is 20% for the TPT Teacher Appreciation Sale for the next two days! Remember to use the coupon code Thank You.

Teacher Feature Tuesday fearing Hannah from 21st Century K

So happy to feature Hannah from 21st Century Kindergarten!

1. How long have you been TPT'ing?

Officially, since 2013, but only seriously pursuing since August, 2014. :)

2. What is your most helpful advice to TPT'ers?

Find your niche! Choose some part of education about which you are passionate and focus on that! If it is important to you, chances are someone else will find value in it, too!

3. What is your most helpful advice for new teachers?

Learn your standards! In an ever-changing world of education, knowing your standards will be the key to helping your students find success. Relying on a teacher's manual is a thing of the past. Know your standards and teach them!

Amazingness Below :)

I love her unit on Citizenship! I am in the process of aligning our tutoring materials with themes and citizenship is one of my favorites. I love designing projects where students get to be good stewards of the earth and their community. I love how her unit includes activities and badges to help the students learn more about citizenship. I also love her units for calendar work by month. Help yourself and your kids our. No seriously! Teacher Feature Tuesday featuring Caitlin Veise from Cait's Cool School!

Happy Tuesday! *does happy dance*
This week I'm so happy to introduce you to
Caitlin Veise from Cait's Cool School

Her posters are literally too cool for school.

How long have you been TPT'ing?
Since November 2014

What is your most helpful advice for new teachers?
I'm a bit of a newbie myself, but I have quickly learned that the seller's forum is a wealth of information! I've gotten everything from feedback in my store to ideas for how to improve covers and write terms of use to encouragement. Go check out the forum!

What is your most helpful advice for beginning teachers?
Be flexible. Everything is not always going to go by your plan, so be ready to change and adapt. Sometimes the best lessons are the ones you didn't plan!

Any additional tips?
Two things I've found that really keep students engaged and active learners- give them open-ended tasks and let them investigate to find their answer AND give them options. I try to represent different modalities in my options, but with the same overall knowledge presented. For example, students can create a comic strip summary or write a newspaper article. It's a win-win! Students feel like they're in control and get to use their strengths, while I get to see their amazing creative results and how they used what we learned in class.

Fantastic Products

I love her unit My Teacher is Missing!

Such a creative way to tie in literacy with sub plans! So much better than the traditional worksheets. I'm so happy she shared her tips with us this week!

Teacher Feature Tuesdays: Heather from My Life At The Pencil Sharpener!

Congrats to Heather from My Life At The Pencil Sharpner for being the Teacher Feature of the week. I loved her theme (because I did spend my teaching life at the pencil sharpener, thinking about pencils, picking up pencils, hating pencils, etc) and the great advice that she has for new TPTers and teachers.

1. How long have you been TPT'ing?

I have been on TpT for just over a year as a seller. As a buyer I have been on TpT for at least 5 years! I love this community!

2. What's is your most helpful advice for new TPTers?

My most helpful advice for new TpT sellers is to begin to network with other sellers and members of the TpT community on the forum. They have so much knowledge and are so helpful! I have learned so much from experienced sellers who are kind enough to share their wisdom!

3. What is your most helpful advice for beginning teachers?

My best advice for beginner teachers would be to always remember why you decided to become a teacher. There will be plenty of rough days, but it is important to focus on the positive. I always keep a complimentary note or two from parents or students in my top desk drawer. When I am having a bad day I just open the drawer and read this note. I am instantly reminded of why our jobs are so important!

Any additional tips?

Don't be afraid to look to others for lesson plan ideas and resources. There are only so many hours in a day so plan what you feel most confident in and don't hesitate to look for ideas from others on great sites such as TpT and other teacher blogs!

Product Feature

I love anything detective or mystery related! This unit about mystery word problems looks absolutely fantastic! It focuses on multiplication, division and multi-step problems that students need to master!

2. What's is your most helpful advice for new TPTers?

Take your time developing products. Test them out in your own classroom or the classrooms of colleagues. Ask for direct feedback from the students.

3. What is your most helpful advice for beginning teachers?

Focus on one or two things and do them well. It could be a subject area, classroom management or even assessment. Take care of yourself. Set aside time to exercise and eat well. Stay in touch with your friends and family. They will keep you grounded.

Any additional tips?

Stay positive. Keep persevering. Your job is to never diminish hope.

WARNING! EXTREMELY HELPFUL UNIT AHEAD!!!!

Check out her unit on procedural writing! I know when I was teaching, my students struggled to write warm and engaging text using first, next, then, finally. It was too formulaic. I wish I had had this unit to help my kids! I love that unit includes rubrics, prompts, and guides to help support the teacher.

TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY: Nicole Chatz

The Wonderful Teacher Feature is....

Nicole Chatz
from Primary Teaching Resources
http://primaryteachingresources.blogspot.ca
Photobucket

1. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TPT'ING?

2 months - but I've been creating my own teaching resources for as long as I can remember! I'd been toying with the idea of upgrading to a seller's account for a few years and finally took the plunge.

2. WHAT'S IS YOUR MOST HELPFUL ADVICE FOR NEW TPTERS?

Sit back and observe for a bit before you upload your first product. There are lots of rookie mistakes you can avoid by participating in the Seller's Forum.

3. WHAT IS YOUR MOST HELPFUL ADVICE FOR BEGINNING TEACHERS?

Don't try to do everything in your first year. The Internet is a blessing because it brings so many great ideas, but it's also a quick way to make yourself feel inadequate. Sometimes you just need to unplug and not worry about finding or designing the most creative lesson. Don't lose sight of the fact that it's your connection with the students that matters the most!

MY FAVE PRODUCT

I love this grocery game! Like all of her products, it is colorful, practical, and engaging for students.

I am so glad that she participated with Teacher Feature Tuesday. I love learning from other teachers and TPT'ers to how to grow as a teacher and as an entrepreneur. I especially love her advice about being patient with yourself and your store. I definitely had those feelings of being inadequate in the beginning, but there is a great quote that I'm trying to live by:

Don't judge your beginning by someone else's middle

:)

TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY: Myranda Doering

TIME FOR TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY!

Our lovely Teacher Feature is....

Myranda Doering
from Keep Calm and Teach 5th Grade
http://keepcalmandteachfifthgrade.blogspot.com

1. How long have you been TPT'ing?

4 months!

2. What's is your most helpful advice for new TPTers?

As a new TPTer, my best advice is that it really is worth the investment to have a professional, cohesive design for your store and related social media sites as well as the cost associated with becoming a premium seller.

Also, spend a little money upfront on some clipart that can be used in all of your designs so that you develop a signature product look early on.

Read lots of blogs, watch lots of products and learn from the best!

3. What is your most helpful advice for beginning teachers?

My most helpful advice for new teachers is to remember that you're learning and everything is going to be alright! Nobody expects for you to get it exactly right the first time. You're doing your best and your best is what counts.

Also, maintain firm expectations with your students. Don't be a "sometimes" teacher. Make sure they know what you expect at all times. Don't waver and don't feel mean. They'll respect you more for it in the end.

Additional tips?

Remember your blessings and how hard you worked to get here! Find something to smile about every day and connect with other teachers.
